To become an Approved Driving Instructor you must pass 3 qualifying exams within 2 years. |
What you need to do first is:
Request an ADI 14 (Approved Driving Instructor) Information Pack from the DSA

| You will then need to study for the Part 1 Theory Test and Hazard Perception Test. These ADI qualifying exams are taken on a computer at the local DSA Theory Test Centre. It is similar to the one learners take but has more questions (100). The theory test is multiple choice style which you will need to score 85% to pass and have 90 minutes to complete. Also included is a Hazard Perception Test which shows 14 video clips of developing hazards. You need to click the computer mouse each time you spot a hazard.
57 out of 75 marks are required to pass.
If you don't have access to a computer or have difficulty with studying for the tests, a two hour session can be taken on a Pay As You Go Basis.
When you are confidently achieving a pass in both theory and hazard perception, apply to take the test (see Links), currently £80. You have 3 attempts at sitting the exam (on different occasions) and must pass before you can take the Part 2 Test of Driving Ability.
